ORCHESTRA - Full Story

The Full Story

The planned recording session was on location with an 18 piece orchestra at The Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton. FBM&M attended pre production meetings to advise on microphone choice and placement along with equipment logistics. The planned schedule was very demanding due to the limited time-scale and strict budgets. Turnaround time for recording individual pieces was very tight (around 20 minutes) and the Musical Director specified that the complete set of works should be captured within the day to maintain a uniform room sound (if the movements were recorded over two days there would be unavoidable changes in tuning and ambient room sound). FBM&M designed a room layout and recording plan to minimise set up time, prevent microphone movement and promote efficiency wherever possible.

FBM&M readied the space on the day and installed recording equipment. During the session, multiple versions of each movement were recorded. Due to FBM&M efficiency at the start of the day the orchestra were able to re-record a movement.

In post production at FBM&M studios, our recording engineer assisted our Managing Director, to record guitar parts before inviting Tim Seymour to a listening session. Once mixes had been selected they were mastered for hard copy production and lossless Apple Music release. FBM&M prepared artwork and text for physical copies to be reproduced. FBM&M made marketing and distribution recommendations which were accepted by the client and from there a marketing release schedule was put in place for early 2024.
