The Full Story

Due to the short notice (two weeks) between signing off the project and the first performance, FBM&M transferred the whole team onto the project and began liaising with the set designer and director. A digital scale design was produced, with structural truss proposed as the safest, cheapest and most efficient way to build the framework for the set. All necessary equipment and resources were organised.

Once on-site, FBM&M built the structure and worked with the designer to dress it. Actors then moved on set to rehearse and FBM&M developed the lighting/special FX design and recorded cues for each scene. FBM&M sourced both generator and distribution to power the event and the installation was certificated to BS7909 standard.

FBM&M contracted all members of cast and crew and relevant insurance was sourced and obtained. Overnight security was required and FBM&M sourced this and briefed security teams daily.

The production contained a number of risk factors, including fire, working at height and impaired vision. FBM&M assessed and mitigated each risks to ensure the safety of performers, audience members and crew. FBM&M put in place a rigorous event plan and health and safety documentation suite and submitted this to the local council. This was also available on-site in case of inspection.

The production took place during a period of extreme weather, so FBM&M undertook daily weather assessments and conducted hourly wind speed readings whilst the public were on-site.

During the production, FBM&M provided: Production Manager, Stage Manager and Lighting Operator, over the five night, fifteen performance run.

The production ran smoothly with no weather-related cancellations required, no health and safety problems and one minor breach of the secure perimeter which was dealt with by site security.

The project partners were delighted with the outcome and audiences were thrilled with the performance experience.
